What is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?
An IEE is an evaluation of a student completed by a qualified professional who is not employed by the student's school district. The purpose of an IEE is to provide additional information about a student's educational needs. Parents or school districts may request an IEE from an independent qualified professional if they continue to have questions about a student's educational needs, learning profile, and/or access to appropriate supports after a school-based evaluation team report (ETR) has already been completed. The results from an IEE can help parents and the school district better understand a student's strengths, challenges, and support needs, and may be considered when making decisions about the student's educational program and services.
When to Consider an IEE:
An IEE may be helpful when:
- There are ongoing concerns about a student's academic, behavioral, developmental, and/or functional performance.
- A student is not making expected progress despite current interventions or supports.
- There are questions about whether a student may need additional or different services.
- A family or school team is looking for an independent perspective on a student's needs.
- New concerns have emerged that may warrant further evaluation.
- Additional assessment information could help the team make informed decisions about educational supports and services.
The goal of our IEE team is: to provide meaningful, objective information that can contribute to a clearer understanding of the whole student. When families and school teams have access to comprehensive evaluation data, they can work together to identify appropriate supports and develop educational plans that help students thrive.
Our IEE Team:
IEEs may include a Licensed Psychologist or School Psychologist, Speech Language Pathologist, and/or Occupational Therapist
Our IEE team members also work within schools and/or supervise other Wraparound Experts in the field. We believe this is an incredible asset to our team in that our team members are actively involved in the real educational settings in which students are participating and therefore have a “beyond the clinic” understanding.
IEE Cost:
IEEs are typically paid by the student’s school district. Our evaluations typically range in price from $2,500 to $5,000 depending on the complexity of the evaluation.
